EGP Profiles: An Interview with Corey Villines Brooks
Corey is a Senior Auditor and Tax Accountant with EGP,PLLC. We would like to congratulate her on recently passing the CPA exam. She and her husband just celebrated the recent birth of their first born, Carter Thomas Brooks.
1. How long have you been a staff accountant in audit and tax?
I started working with EGP in May 2007 as a summer receptionist, assisted with administrative tasks during tax season 2008, became an audit/tax intern during the summer of 2008 & tax season 2009. Once I graduated, I began working full time in the audit department, while assisting the tax department when needed.
2. What's your advice to recent accounting grads on deciding which technical path to choose within audit, tax, forensic accounting?
First decide if you're going to go for your CPA, if so, then start studying and get it out of the way while you're deciding what path you want to pursue. Then with regards to which field you want to be in, I would suggest trying a bit of all of them to see where your strengths/weaknesses lie and see what you enjoy doing. That's one of the main reasons why I love working at EGP, I can dabble in all areas! I love auditing, but I see myself pursuing forensic accounting later on in life.
3. What is your favorite stress release during a busy tax season?
Cookie pow-wow time or random dance parties with Candice in the Penthouse!!
4. What's the most interesting challenge as an accountant at EGP, PLLC?
Every tax season seems to be more challenging than the last ... and I like it!!
5. Where did you attend college?
Hendrix College
6. What Professional/Community Activities are you currently involved in?
I’m the Past President and current Membership Chair of the Central AR Chapter of the Accounting and Financials Women’s Alliance
