EGP Profiles: An Interview with Glenda Melton

1. How long have you been apart of the EGP tax team?
I've been with the team for seven years working as a tax manager full time during the busy season and part time in off-season. Over the years my experience has centered around individuals, trust and business returns as well as a good mix of retirees. I have approximately 300 clients I actively manage.

2. What to you find is the most rewarding thing in working with your clients during tax season?
The relationships I have formed with my clients. I love finding out what all has gone on with my seasonal clients over the past year. It's like running into an old friend every year when I have the privilege of working with them. I love finding ways to make my business clients more profitable and ways to improve their business. I want my clients to feel like I am their partner in their endeavors.

3. The accounting industry is forever changing, what's the most interesting challenge as an accountant in today's world?
Keeping up with the ever changing tax laws. With all that has gone on the past couple of years within our government, IRS, etc., it requires a CPA to stay on top on continuing education which means many more hours of education and research. I can't stress enough how much you want your CPA staying on top of these changes.

4. Tell us you're favorite tax season stress reliever?
Happy hour on Fridays!! Just kidding, no time for that just yet! Spending time with my family and what really helps to relieve stress is to have such great clients to work with. It makes the very long days so worthwhile.
